Instructor Howel Haunson

Howell Haunson has been involved professionally in real estate for 42 years, since becoming a licensed salesperson at the age of 18. He obtained his brokers license and was a practicing attorney focusing on real estate issues by the age of 26. Howell received both a Juris Doctorate and Masters of Law Degree from Atlanta Law School, where he graduated Valedictorian of his class of 123. He is an attorney with Sparks, King, and Watts where he is the Director of Education. Howell has had several articles published in The Atlanta Business Chronicle, The National Mortgage Professional Magazine, The Georgia Mortgage Press, REALTOR® Magazine for both NAR and GAR, The Residential Specialist Magazine, The Barrow News, and DS News. He is an Adjunct Professor of Law at John Marshall Law School in Atlanta (teaching Real Estate Finance), an instructor for the Graduate, REALTORS® Institute (GRI), and has been a featured presenter on the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) Podcasts. Further, he has received the following recognitions: Affiliate of the Year for the Metro South Association of REALTORS® (MSAR) in 2007 for his dedication and contribution toward the education of its members; Instructor of the Year for the Georgia Association of REALTORS® (GAR) in 2008 and 2009; and, Educator of the Year for the Georgia Real Estate Educators Association (GREEA) in 2009.

This class covers the advertising rules of the GREC 520-1-.09; everything agents need to consider before spending advertising dollars and what brokers need to know when supervising advertising. Agents and brokers will learn what the rumors are and what the rules are in advertising, from business cards to social media, in accordance with the GREC.

Instructor Judge Parker

Judge earned his real estate license in 1998 and broker license in 2001. While actively selling real estate, Judge achieved annual sales high enough to place him in the Multi-Million Dollar Club. Judge has handled real estate transactions in numerous areas, including first-time buyers, investment properties, foreclosures, residential resales, luxury homes and commercial resales. As a managing broker, Judge is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the office, managing and expanding his team of sales associates and ongoing training. Actively involved in his profession, his volunteer activities have included serving on many committees at the local and state level of the REALTORS® association. In addition, Judge is a GAR Leadership Academy graduate. Judge’s professional memberships include the Georgia Real Estate Education Association.

Licensed agents and brokers often inadvertently engage in the unauthorized practice of law when completing sales contracts. This course describes permissible actions and actions that are prohibited. Upon completion of the course, attendees will have a better awareness of the resources available to them, not only to assist them in avoiding the unauthorized practice of law, but also to complete better sales contracts. This course focuses on the GAR Exhibits designed to be attached to a Purchase and Sales Agreement.

Students are requested to bring to class most current version of the GAR Special stipulations.

Cheryl is a Partner and the Managing Attorney for the firm’s Alpharetta office and Short Sale Department. She serves on the firm’s Management Committee. Cheryl is a member of the Georgia Real Estate Closing Attorneys Association and active in the Real Estate Section of the Bar. Cheryl frequently provides presentations to mortgage and real estate companies on loan fraud, contract creation, contract interpretation, and short sales. Cheryl received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Louisiana State University and a Juris Doctor degree from University of Richmond Law School. While attending the University of Richmond, she was the Managing Editor of the Journal of Law and Technology. She published an article in the journal entitled “CompuServe v. Patterson: Creating Jurisdiction Through Internet Contacts.” Cheryl was named University of Richmond’s “Woman Lawyer of the Year” by the National Association of Women Lawyers. She is a former contributing writer for the National Association of Women Lawyer’s Journal, writing a quarterly column on technology and the law.

Students will list steps in the process necessary to avoid conventional mistakes involved in completing contracts. Also, students will be able to compare what is permissible from what is prohibited and list three relevant issues to help prevent common mishaps. (This course provides both Real Estate Licensee CE credit and Real Estate Instructor CE credit.)
